Bath student properties for 2012 academic year

Looking for student accommodation for the 2012 academic year? The season is just about to start, with most agents advertising either just before or just after Christmas. This year, Madison Oakley will be releasing all our student properties via Facebook on the 1st of December so, for priority notification of all our student properties, visit and like our Facebook page.

All our student properties are accredited and managed by local landlords. We have upwards of 50 properties ranging from 3 beds up to 7 beds in areas like Oldfield Park, Moorfields, Widcombe, Southdown, Wellsway, Newbridge and the city centre.

Students will be pleased to know we do not charge “admin fees” to tenants and always conduct individual viewings. We also provide floorplans and internal photos on every property to make your search easier. However, in return, we do ask that all members of a group view at the same time.

Once all properties have been released onto Facebook, we will update our other websites with full details.

Bath student accommodation

Bath student demand

Bath Abbey

Knight Frank’s Student Property Report has been released today, detailing the top 20 locations in the UK for student housing. Bath came 14th in the list but the raw numbers are the really interesting information. With two universities in the city, there are 16,895 full time students studying here (2009/2010 academic roster) and yet the university owned accommodation houses just 25% of this population. By my calculations, that leaves a little over 12,600 students relying on private landlords for a roof over their heads. It’s also worth pointing out that these figures don’t take into account the Technical College students, intakes from several language schools and the Norland College.

Student buy to let headlines make much of the tuition fee raise and the projected fall in student numbers. However, from these figures it looks like Bath landlords can expect demand to stay considerably higher than some surrounding towns. It is also worth pointing out that Bristol was placed even higher than Bath in the report and some students live in one city and commute to the other.

If you’re considering buying to let for students in Bath, concentrate on the Oldfield Park area (around the Orange and Royal Bath bus routes). Long popular with students (for ease of access to town, local amenities and transport links) this area has plenty of Victorian terraces ripe for conversion into HMO’s. Examples can always be found on our website or do call us for advice.
